Join Bee JoyFarm at The Urban Farm for a full-day Beekeeping 101 class from 8:00 AM–2:00 PM. This 6-hour course includes 4 hours of classroom learning and 2 hours of hands-on time at the hives. Participants will learn honeybee biology, hive basics, and seasonal care—perfect for beginners and the bee-curious.
Specific Topics Include:
Honeybee biology and the roles of the queen, workers, and drones
How a beehive works and an overview of hive equipment
Seasonal beekeeping tasks in Colorado
Understanding brood patterns, food stores, and overall hive health
Common pests and diseases, including prevention and treatment basics
Feeding bees and when supplemental feed is needed
Safe hive inspections and basic beekeeping tools
What to expect during your first year of beekeeping
Urban beekeeping considerations and best practices
Hands-on hive time: observing bees, opening a hive, and asking questions
*In order for the class to occur, 4 people must signup. If the minimum is not met by the prior Saturday a full refund will be issued and the class will be cancelled.
